On February 2nd, 2015, State secretary for Education, Culture & Science Sander Dekker (VVD) presented the members of Platform #Onderwijs 2032.
Onderwijs2032 (in English: Education 2032) is an initiative by the Dutch government to stimulate and facilitate a civil dialogue in the Netherlands around the future of education.
Education prepares children/students for their future. But as the world is changing in more rapid pace every day, shouldn’t we reconsider what preparing for this continuously changing future means?
What knowledge and skills do we need to teach our children in order for them to be able to face the challenges of tomorrow?
The Dutch government wants to engage in a civil dialogue with students, teachers, parents, school-representatives, but also with other stakeholders outside the direct sphere of education like future employers.
The platform #Onderwijs2032 is installed to facilitate this civil dialogue on the future of education. The platform is chaired by Prof. Dr. Paul Schnabel. The others members are either teachers, scientists or representatives from business organizations.
The VVD (People Party for Freedom and Democracy) has asked the State secretary in parliament to invite also the startup community in the Netherlands to engage in the dialogue. We think that, however at the moment these might still be small companies, they could well become the employers of the future. The State secretary has embraced this request and has agreed to ask the platform to invite the Dutch startup community, and it’s ambassador Mrs. Kroes, to contribute in the dialogue.
